Mary Reaves is Bride in Fresno Home Ceremony
Wearing the wedding gown and veil worn by her mother 38 years ago, Miss Mary Pauline Reaves was an attractive bride at the wedding ceremony Sunday, August 11, in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.N. Reaves of Fresno, at which she became the wife of Mr. Walter B. Lewis of San Jose. Mrs. Susan R. Williams of Pacific Grove was her sister’s matron of honor. She was gowned in white organdy and carried deep red cinnamon carnations. Miss Beulah Cromwell, bridesmaid, also wore white and carried pink gladioli. Mr. Clarnece Lewis, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The bride’s gown was fashioned with a high necked bodice with rows of lace and cream colored ribbon, its long sleeves made of batiate and valenciennes lace, and with a sash of cream colored lace. The veil fell from a coronet of pleated tuile decorated with orange blossoms and pearls. She carried a shower of carnations and lilies of the valley. The rev. Thomas B. Marsh of the Memorial Baptist church of Fresno read the service which took place in front of the fireplace banked with summer flowers and greenery. Mrs. Reaves, mother of the bride, wore a beige silk crepe dress for the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father, while her brother, Olson Reeves, sang “I Love You Truly.” The wedding march was played by Miss Opal Wilson who also played the accompaniment for mr. Reeves song. A reception was held for relatives and intimate friends of the couple immediately following the ceremony. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Williams of Pacific Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Smith and two children of Taft, Mrs. Catherine Zertzman of San Jose; Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Click, Hiram Click Jr., Miss Olive Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Chapin and son, Edward, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gutzman; Mr. and Mrs. La Rue, all of Fresno, and Mr. and Mrs. John Reaves of Snelling and Mrs. John Croft and two children, also of Snelling; Mr. Olson Reaves and Mr. E. Reaves of San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis left for a short honeymoon in northern Calfiornai returning to make their home in San Jose. The bride’s costume was a yellow silk crepe dress with brown accessories. Mrs. Lewis has many friends in Pacific Grove who are extending their felicitations. She spent several months here last summer at the home of her sister, 588 Junipero street.
