September Popular Month For Pacific Grove Marriages
Brides and weddings continue to be the focal point of the Peninsula society spotlight this month more so than ever as each week new members of the younger set join the marital ranks, and others step in the bride-elect group. With five weddings scheduled the coming week promised to be the busiest of the entire months.
Plans Sunday Wedding – Another of next week’s brides will be Miss Frances Bowen of Monterey who is to marry Herbert Golien September 15, at St. Mary’s Episcopal church with Rev. Albert E. Clay performing the ceremony at 4:00 o’clock. Miss Bowen, who will be gowned in an afternoon dress of white with a matching hat also of white with a veil, will be given away by her father, Lloyd J. Bowen, who recently arrived here from Mantius, Ill., for the occasion. Her maid of honor will be Miss Margaret McCann of Pacific Grove and Clyde E. Winkle of Monterey will act as best man. After the ceremony thre will be a reception at the home of the bride-elect’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Grimes in Monterey. Later they plan to visit the San Diego fair before establishing a residence in Monterey. A graduate of the Monterey High school, Miss Bowen has been a student of music for many years and has studied with a prominent Eastern professor. Mr. Golien is the son of Mrs. E.M. LaRue of Pacific Grove and is connected with the Monterey Presidio with the motor corps division. A recent social event honoring Miss Bowen was a dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. Grimes at their home.
