Monterey American, CA Oct. 13, 1913
With the passing this morning of Mr. Thomas Harper, Pacific Grove loses its oldest continuous resident. Mr. Harper had been confined to his home on Fifteenth street for two years, as the result of a paralytic stroke, in July, 1911, but he was able to assist himself right up to the time of his death, which came suddenly at 4:30 this morning. Mr. Harper had been a familiar figure in the Grove for years, having come here in 1970, arriving in Monterey in 1977 from the Shetland Isles, where he was born. At the time of his death he was 73 year old. Mr. Harper came to the Grove when there were but few people here and it was but a camping ground. He was the agent for David jacks for twenty-five years and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Besides his widow, there are left to mourn his loss three children, James harper, the post Master, Mrs. H.G. Walker of Watsonville and Sinclair Harper of Grand Junction, Colorado, who will be present at the funeral services, which will be held on Thursday afternoon at two o’clock from the Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member.
