Gail Marie Hyler Was An Easter Bride
The afternoon sun on Easter Sunday streamed through the butterfly resurrection memorial windows of the First Methodist Church of Pacific Grove, illuminating the wedding of Gail Marie Hyler and George J. Ashton. Rev. Wendell Ensor performed the 2:30 p.m. ceremony. The pretty bride, who was Queen Topax in last year’s Feast of Lanterns celebration in Pacific Grove, and had been Princess Amethyst in previous years, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson W. “Bill” Hyler of Pacific Grove. She shoes an Empire style boucle brocade gown, the matching train falling from her shoulders, and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, surrounding an orchid center. A helmet cap of pearls and brilliants held her elbow length veil. For something old she wore a 55-year-Elks Pin that had belonged to her grandfather, the late Theodore E. Dean of Pacific Grove. The attendants were Rosemary Tryon of Monterey, maid of honor, and Joan Leslie Hyler, the bride’s youngest sister. They wore green and blue boucie brocade dresses with matching hair bows, and carried yellow rosebuds. Arden Handshy of Pacific Grove was best man. Seating the guests were Gerald Bumpus of Monterey and Willey Hinds of Pacific Grove. Following a reception in the banquet room at Neptune’s Table, the young couple left by automobile on a wedding trip to Southern California. They will live in Carmel Valley, where Mr. Ashton is associated with a construction firm. The new Mrs. Ashton was graduated from Pacific Grove schools, and her husband from Watsonville High School. Both attended Monterey Peninsula College. Mr. Ashton served as a frogman with the U.S. Navy. Among the guests at the wedding was Mr. Ashton’s sister, Mrs. Leon King of Fresno, and his three nephews, Jerry, Terry and Larry King. Miss Joyce Locke was in charge of the guest book. Among the prenuptial parties for the bride was a lingerie shower given by her attendants at Miss Tryon’s home, and a miscellaneous shower given by her sister, Mrs. James Holman (Deanna Hyler) of Carmel Valley at the home of their maternal grandmother, Mrs. Theodore E. Dean of Pacific Grove. Her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Clyde F. Dyke of Pacific Grove was hostess at a linen shower for the bride.
