Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Dec. 20, 1967
Sandra Baptiste Is The Bride of Luther Jackson Pendleton
Sandra Baptiste, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard E. Baptiste of Pacific Grove, became the bride of Luther Jackson Pendleton at the Fort Ord main chapel. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther K. Pendleton of Monterey, and his father performed the 2 p.m. ceremony. The bride wore a sheath gown of peau de soie, with a lace yoke and jewel neckline, three-quarter length lace sleeves and a lace back panel. A pearl petal crown held her shoulder length veil and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis. Mrs. Mario Genovese of Monterey was the matron of honor. The bride’s two sisters, Constance and Cathryn Baptiste, were the other attendants. Douglas Pendleton was his brother’s best man. John Otter of Carmel Valley and Thomas d’Acquisto of Monterey seated the guests. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Presidio of Monterey noncommissioned officers’ club. The three-tiered cake was made by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Joshua Bons, who came with Mr. Bons from Sunnyvale for the wedding. Later, a buffet dinner was served to relatives and friends at the Peninsula Judo Academy on Lighthouse avenue, which is operated by the bride’s father. The Authentic Hawaiians provided music for the occasion. Other out of town guests included the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Hisa Fujii of Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawaii; the bridegroom’s great-uncle, Wesley Rusk of San Mateo and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Morrow of Cupertino and Mr. and Mrs. Kiyoji Fujii of Gardena, uncles and aunts of the bride. The newlyweds, who honeymooned in San Francisco, will spend Christmas with both families here on the Peninsula and will then leave for Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where the bridegroom is stationed with the U.S. Army. Both Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton attended Monterey Peninsula and San Francisco State colleges. (PGHS) 1963 sandra
