54 Years Of Wedded Bliss
Celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary tomorrow will be Mr. and Mrs. William Haynes of Pacific Grove. Peninsula residents for the past 41 years, they came to the United States from England in 1920 and after spending a year in San Francisco, came to this area. Mr. Haynes was, for many years, employed by the late Mrs. J.A. Murray at her beautiful home located on what is now Cannery Row. He later joined the staff of the Pacific Grove school district and now has been retired for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes were schoolmates in England and were married Jan 25, 1908, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at Hatfield Peverl near Chelmsford, Essex. Performing the ceremony was the late Rev. F.B. Toumin, uncle of the late Harry Toulmin of Monterey. During World War I Mrs. Haynes served with the Royal British Air Force and spent the years 1914-18 in France. Both Mr. and Mrs. Haynes are members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Pacific Grove and Mrs. Haynes served with the Altar Guild for many years. “Since our retirement we have lived happily ever after,”says Mr. Haynes. “We are now looking forward to our 60th anniversary. Their many friends on the Peninsula are offering them congratulations and best wishes for the future.
