Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Sept. 13, 1961
Wed in Tulsa Church
“At Home” after next Monday in Apartment 5, 1234 Patterson Lane, Pacific Grove, will be newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Barbao, who were married Sept. 5 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The bride is the former Marilyn Irizarry, who has been making her home in Carmel while a member of the Monterey Union High School faculty. She is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Irizarry of Tulsa. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. Veda Barbao of Los Angeles and Benjamin Barbao of Clarksburg, West Virginia, is loan officer at Wells Fargo American Trust in Monterey. The evening wedding took place at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Curtis W. Junker officiating. The bride wore a street length ensemble of white lace and satin, a fitted lace sheath worn with a white satin overdress fashioned with an oval neckline and bracelet sleeves. The full skirt was softly pleated and accented at the waist with a small self-fabric bow. A small tiara of pearls held the bride’s bouffant veil of silk illusion, and she carried a cascade of white roses with a touch of pale lavender carnations. Mrs. R.B. MacKenzie of Tulsa was matron of honor, wearing champagne peau de soie with a short bouffant veil of silk illusion. She carried a cascade of powder blue carnations mounted on a leaf green and powder blue fan. Drew Dickson Jr. of Oklahoma City, cousin of the bride, served as best man. Ushers were John C. McCaslin and R.B. MacKenzie, both of Tulsa. A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, after which the newlyweds left for a honeymoon trip including visits to Oklahoma City, Denver, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Lake Tahoe.
