Carmel Pine Cone, CA July 29, 2005
FRANCES ANNE FELLOWS, a Carmel resident of more than 30 years, died July 21 at the age of 77. Born in Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Fellows earned her associate of arts degree in liberal arts before moving to California, where she met her husband of 56 years, Rowland Fellows, at University of California Berkeley. Mr. and Mrs. Fellows lived in Japan from 1952 to 1956 while Mr. Fellows was working as an engineer for the U.S. Navy. They later lived in Germany and traveled throughout most of Europe. They moved to San Jose in 1968 and lived there until 1974, when the couple relocated to Carmel. Mrs. Fellows joined the membership of the Church of the Wayfarer and was involved in Yes for Carmel, Friends of Sunset, Friends of the Monterey Peninsula, and she served as president of the Peninsula Club. She also volunteered at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, home decorating, designing jewelry, traveling, tennis and golf. She is survived by her husband; a brother, Charles Solt of Stockton, N.J.; a son, Rowland Fellows Jr. of Folsom; a daughter, Ceanne Herndon of Japan; and three grandchildren. Services will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the SPCA of Monterey County. SHEROD SANTOS, known as “Rod,” died at his home July 25 at the age of 86. A native of Ukiah, Mr. Santos moved to Carmel in 1965. He worked as a realtor, owning Carmel Associates for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club and the Monterey County Board of Realtors. He served in World War II and the Korean War as a member of the Air Force, retiring as a Colonel after 22 years. Mr. Santos is survived by his sons, Ralph of Dallas, Texas, and Rod of Columbia, Mo.; his daughter, Cheri Lynn Brandon of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove Friday, July 29, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 811, 3131 Crescent Ave., Marina, CA 93933.
