Ellis Eugene Clifford passed away on February 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Lindsay, California on October 15, 1918 to Raymond E. and Myrtle Clifford. He grew up on his parents' ranch. In his earlier life he studied general business administration in college and was a musician playing the clarinet with Tut Lombardo in Modesto, California. from October 1940 to November 1942. He was in the U.S. Navy from November 19, 1942 through January 26, 1946 and started out doing payroll. He was stationed in NTS Farragut, Idaho, H 9th N.D., Great Lakes, Ill., Navy V-12 Unit, ISC, Ames Iowa and was a gunner aboard the destroyer ship USS Hugh W. Hadly, which had been attacked by approximately 100 enemy japanese airplanes in May 1945. He earned the Presidential Unit Citation ribbon with star, along with Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Point System. He had an extensive banking career in California ending up in Reno, Nevada in June 1964 with Security Bank of Nevada. He loved Reno so much that he and his family decided to stay. He was impressed how he could go just about anywhere in Reno and he would see someone he knew. During his banking career he was a member of the Prospectors' Club. He was a member of the Toastmaster's International and president of Security Toastmasters from January 1978 - June 1978. He retired as a Vice President of Security Bank of Nevada in 1981. He loved to do crossword puzzles, read paperback books, metal detecting and visit old sites around the Reno area. He walked at Virginia Lake Park and Park Lane Mall. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Bette Clifford and May Clifford. He is survived by one brother, Vernon Clifford in So. Bend, Washington, and a niece, Jane Woodward and her husband Gene Woodward in Eagle Point, Oregon. He is also survived by his daughter Deborah Clifford Mardon and her husband William Mardon and son Gary Clifford and his wife Dawn Clifford, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all in Reno. Cremation will be at Mountain View Mortuary and inurnment will be at The El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove, California. There will be a memorial held at St. Terese The Little Flower Church on February 19, 2005 at 12:00. We all loved him very much and we are going to miss him.
