Mrs. Conover Dies in East
Telegrams were received last evening from Dayton, Ohio, telling of the death in that city yesterday of Mrs. Charlotte Reeve Conover, mother of Reeve Cononver, engineer for the Monterey county planning commission, and a sister of Mrs. Robert Dexter of Pacific Grove. Mrs. Conover was 85 years old, was quite blind but wrote for publication up to within a few weeks of her death. Her booklet “On Being Eighty” – went into a second edition, and Putnam had published her “Builders in New Fields” within the past year. She has lectured in Carmel and has many friends on the Peninsula. For many years she conducted current event classes for men and women in various parts of the East. No information regarding funeral arrangements has been received.

High Tribuntes Are Paid to Mrs. Conover
Newspapers of Dayton, Ohio, the “home town” of the late Charlotte Reeve Conover, paid highest tributes to the beloved woman following her death there Sept. 23. Mrs. Conover, mother of Reeve Conover, Monterey county planning engineer, and the sister of Mrs. R.E. Dexter of Pacific Grove, had spent much time here during recent years and was widely known on the peninsula. Because of her many friendships here, editorial tributes paid to Mrs. Conover by Dayton newspapers are being reproduced. A Dayton Journal editorial on Sept. 24 said, in part: “Hers was a powerful life, a life stimulating to all with whom she came in contact. The candle of her learning shone strongly in Dayton and her death does not extringuish the candle.: The Dayton Daily News said, in part: “A remarkable galaxy of outstanding women have through a long past shed luster upon this community. No list of these would exclude Mrs. Charlotte Reeve Conover, whose death at a ripe old age has just occurred. The name and fame of this energetic, able and courages woman spread long ago beyond the bounds of her home community or even her home state. “Mrs. Conover was Dayton’s outstanding historian. Her manifold writings about Dayton and its people have place on bookshelves far and wide… “She lived bravely, not easily, her pioneer mind always ahead of her time – an outstanding example of brilliant American womanhood.”
