Orrin S. Goan Dies in Carmel
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow for Orrin S. Goan, well known retired business man, who died last night at his home, Isabella street at Stewart Way in Carmel. The rites will be held at the home with Paulís Mortuary in charge of arrangements. A financier of national note, Mr. Goan at various times held executive posts in the National Biscuit company; the United States Motor company, forerunner of the Chrysler corporation; Warner Brothers motion picture company, and Berry Brothers, Detroit varnish manufacturing concern. He retired from active business in 1926, traveling in Europe for some years before settling in Carmel in 1937. Descended from the earliest settlers of the Susquehanna Valley, Mr. Goan was born in Dubuque, Iowa, and first came west when but five years old, traveling across the country in a covered wagon. He later returned to the Middle West and finally entered business in Chicago. When the National Biscuit company was organized, he was made manager of the companyís factory in Chicago, later being transferred to New York where he took an active part in pioneering for employee welfare. His first wife, Annabel Adams Goan, died in 1926 and it was after her death that Mr. Goan retired from active business. In 1937 he married Helen M. Blackhall of New York City and since had made his home in Carmel. Besides his wife, Mr. Goan leaves a brother and sister, Harry E. Goan of Los Angeles and Mrs. James Lee of Dubuque, and four children, Miss Adelaide Goan, Miss Emily Goan and Mrs. Elizabeth G. Crawford, all of New York, and P.S. Goan of Billings, Montana. The family has requested no flowers for the services which will be followed by cremation.
