Col. Albert Everett Harris, 49, a student of Turkish at the Army Language School, died Saturday afternoon in the Fort Ord Hospital of a heart attack he suffered earlier while playing golf at the Pacific Grove Golf Course. Col. Harris had reported to the language school last August for a year’s course in the Turkish language prior to being assigned as the Army Attache in Ankara. He had come to the school from an assignment on the faculty of the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kans. A native of Campbell, Calif., where he was born July 3, 1903, Col. Harris attended Nevada schools, graduating from high school in Reno and attending the University of Nevada from 1921 to 1924. He transferred to the United States Military Academy and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1930. The Presidio of Monterey was one of Col. Harris’ first assignments after leaving the military academy. He was stationed here as a construction engineer and was responsible for the renovation of homes on the post. During World War II, he served in France, Belgium and Holland, and for his service was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Palm by the Provisional Government of France in 1945. He also received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge by verbal order of the late Gen. George Patton. He received the Legion of Merit, the Silver Star, and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. In Monterey, Col. Harris and his wife made their home at 221 Hennessy St. in Bay View park. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Maizie, a sophomore at the University of Kansas, and Kress, a freshman at the Santa Catalina School for Girls. Funeral services will be ehld Wednesday at 10 o’clock at the post chapel at the presidio, followed by burial at the presidio of San Francisco. Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Col. Albert Everett Harris, who died Saturday afternoon, will be held tomorrow at 9:30 at the presidio of Monterey Chapel. Burial will be in the national Cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco. Col. Harris was a student of Turkish at the Army Language School at the Presidio. He suffered a heart attack while playing golf Saturday afternoon and died later at the Fort Ord Hospital. Local arrangements are in charge of The Paul Mortuary.
