Owen Denny to Claim Miss Wood as His Bride in January
On either the tenth or seventeenth of January – they have not yet decided which – Miss Wordie M. Wood, dietitian at the Station hospital at Fort Ord, and Owen Denny of Monterey will be united in marriage. They will exchange their vows at a Nuptial Mass in the Catholic Cathedral of Fresno, with Monsignor Dowling officiating. Miss Jean Wood of Fresno will attend her sister, and Al Denny of San Francisco is to be best man for his brother. The couple’s future home will be in the Monterey Peninsula. Miss Wood, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Word Wood of Fresno, attended the Fresno schools and Fresno State college. She later studied at San Jose State Teachers college before going east to take her dietetics training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. For two years she was the dietitian at the Fresno General hospital, coming to Fort Ord last November. The bride-elect has four brothers, Pete of Fresno, Charles in Palo Alto, Jack in Long Beach and Ernest Wood, who has just been inducted into the army and is at Jefferson Barracks in Missouri. Owen Denny, who has been a Monterey resident for the last five years, is now associated with George Homes in his clothing store. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Denny of San Francisco, and his sister is Grace Denny, also of San Francisco. A graduate of the Watsonville schools, the popular young man is a member of a pioneer California family. His grandfather, the late Owen Smith, was an early resident of this region, and had large land holdings in Corral de Tierra. One of the ranches in that valley is still in the family. Owen is the nephew of Mrs. Thomas Casey of Monterey and San Francisco, Miss Marie Smith and Frank Smith of Monterey.
