Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA July 20, 2003
William Howard and Frances Gertrude Vienna of Pebble Beach celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday with family at the Chart house in Monterey. The couple married on July 17, 1943, in Chicago. Mr. Vienna was born in Hanford. He graduated from Hanford High School, CSU-Fresno and San Jose State universities. He served in the U.S. Navy Corps as a flight engineer and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a Naval Postgraduate School Lab Tech instructor and taught at Fremont Junior High. Mr. Vienna also worked as a building and zoning inspector and later was coordinator of counseling for Monterey County Office of Education for 15 years. He is a member of the Lions Club and various rifle clubs. He enjoys photography, raising fish for his aquarium, building furniture and electronic equipment, sailing his boat, and hand loading ammunition. Mrs. Vienna was born in Chicago. She graduated from Genger High School in Chicago and the licensed vocational nurse program at Hartnell College. She was a licensed vocational nurse at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula for several years, and later at hacienda Carmel before her retirement. She enjoys taking senior quilting classes, knitting, crocheting, oil painting and making stained glass. She volunteers for the Salvation Army through their preschool program, Grandma by 50 Pre Schoolers. The couple met on a blind date and moved to Monterey because they liked the ocean. They have resided in the county since 1964 and have lived in Salinas, Monterey, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. The Viennas have four children, Sandra Herwig Mission Viejo, Lesle Helgason of Pacific Grove, Craig Vienna of Carmel Valley and Colleen Vienna of Sacramento and six grandchildren.
