Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA April 27, 1971
Anniversary Couple Feted
Fifty years of marriage were celebrated at a reception for Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Harvey in their home in Marina. Over 150 relatives and friends attended. Hosts and hostesses for the special occasion were the Harveys’ four sons and two daughters and their spouses. Mr. & Mrs. Elwood Harvey of Morgan Hill and Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Harvey of Los Angeles came to the Monterey Peninsula to join the rest of the family – Messrs. And Mmes. Daniel Harvey, Wayne Harvey, Dan Hoskinson and Mrs. Arlene Hamaker – on their parents’ golden wedding anniversary. The Harveys started with married life in battle Creek, Iowa, but have lived on the Peninsula since 1927. Employed with the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for 15 years, Mr. Harvey retired about 10 years ago; then he and Mrs. Harvey moved to Marina. The anniversary couple were given tickets to Hawaii as a gift from their children. These will be used in the near future to visit Mrs. Harvey’s sister, Mrs. Louise Shook, who came from Honolulu with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Ovio and granddaughters, Lucinda and Allison Ovio, to attend the party. Other special guests were Mrs. Harvey’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Greenwald of Redding, and her niece’s family, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Waiters and their daughter, Nancy, who came from San Jose. The Harveys’ 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren were also on hand to watch the couple cut a three-tiered cake. A few days previously, Mr. & Mrs. John Greenwald entertained with a dinner for Mr. & Mrs. Harvey at Pine Inn in Carmel.
