Monterey County Herald, CA Nov. 8, 1998
Vester and Thelma Sansing of Monterey celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Sept. 22. In 1923, the couple were married at First Baptist Church in Yuma, Ariz. At the time of their marriage, Mr. Sansing was 21 and Mrs. Sansing was 17. For their honeymoon, they drove over a wooden-plank road that crossed the desert between Yuma and El Centro in a Star Roadster. They have one daughter, Thelma F. Clark of Monterey; one son, John L. Sansing of San Rafael; and seven grandchildren. They are “hoping for a great-grandchild,” Said Mrs. Sansing. Mrs. Sansing, nee Cordes, was born in Colgate, Oklahoma Territory. Mr. Sansing was born on a farm in Paris, Texas. They have lived in Monterey since 1982. As a young man, he sang on the radio and belonged to the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railway and Standard Oil, both in Arizona, and has owned several businesses in Arizona and California, including an oil and feed company and a rubber stamp business. Mr. Sansing is a member of the Elks Lodge of Monterey, and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Globe, Ariz. During the anniversary celebration, the couple’s children brought them a large cake, complete with bride and groom on top.
