Jan. 6, 1914 April 18, 2005 Former longtime Twain Harte resident Melba Mae Young died Monday at her Lemon Grove home in San Diego County. She was 91. She was born in Sacramento. She had lived in Monterey from 1935 to 1971 and then lived in Twain Harte until 1996, when she moved to the San Diego area. She was an organist and pianist for more than 60 years and played with the Monterey County Symphony and Monterey Methodist Church. She was also a gifted hand weaver. She is survived by her son, Franklin A. Young Ph.D. of Eugene, Ore.; daughters, Shirleen Allen of Sacramento, Millie Messineo of San Jose and Kathleen Becker of San Diego; her sister, Mildred Morgan of Fort Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, professor Franklin A. Young, in 1984. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at El Carmelo Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 182 El Dorado St., Monterey, CA 93940. The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove is handling arrangements.

Melba Mae Young, age 91, died at her home in Lemon Grove, CA on April 18. A native of Sacramento, she was born January 6, 1914. Mrs. Young was a Monterey resident from 1935 - 1971 and then lived in Twain Harte until 1996 when she moved to the San Diego area. She was a organist and pianist for over 60 years, playing with the Monterey Co. Symphony and Monterey Methodist Church. She was also a gifted hand-weaver. Survivors include her children, Franklin A. Young, Ph. D, of Eugene, OR, Shirleen Allen of Sacramento, Millie Messineo, of San Jose and Kathleen Becker of San Diego; her sister, Mildred Morgan of Ft. Collins, CO; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin A. Young, in 1984. Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary [Pacific Grove] on Friday, April 22 from 9 - 11 AM followed by graveside services at El Carmelo Cemetery at 1 PM. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 182 El Dorado, Monterey, 93940.
