Billie Hughes Said “I Do”
Miss Billie Gaye Hughes and James F. Ewing were united in marriage on Oct. 22 at the Epworth Methodist Church in Chickasha, Okla. The Rev. Robert Smith performed the 8 p.m. ceremony. The bride, who is the daughter of Mrs. Jess W. Hughes of Chickasha, is a former employee of the Monterey Crocker-Anglo Bank. The groom, son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ewing of Ardsley, Pa., served at Fort Ord with CDEC until he received his discharge on Oct. 1. For the ceremony the church was decorated with pedestal baskets of yellow mistletoe chrysanthemums, oak leaves and huckleberry flanked by branch candelabra. Traditional wedding music was played by Mrs. J.B. Ellis and Mrs. Ben DeKinder sand “I Love You Truly” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The bride, who was given in marriage by William Marvin Ackee, wore a gown of white lace and tulle. The molded bodice featured a modified Sabrina neckline and a floor length bouffant skirt. A lace hat trimmed with pearls held her waist length veil of illusion. She carried a Bible covered with white cymbidium orchids. Mrs. William Cavel, her matron of honor, wore a brown velvet sheath and carried small bronze mums centered with a large yellow chrysanthemum. Her maid of honor was Miss Judy Cochran who wore a gold velveteen sheath. Mrs. Richard McTeague wore a green velveteen sheath and both carried bouquets similar to that of the matron of honor. Best man was Henry W. Ewing and ushers were Earl Cressman, Warren Ford, Dean Hinch and Richard McTague. For her daughter =’s wedding, Mrs. Hughes wore a champagne silk sheath and a brown cymbidium orchid corsage. The groom’s mother wore an electric blue silk sheath and pinned on a blue cymbidium orchid corsage. The reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the church, after which the couple left for a New Orleans honeymoon. For her traveling outfit, the bride wore a green wool suit with white accessories and a white orchid corsage. The couple’s future home will be in Pennsylvania.
