Schaufele-Van Wie Wedding Conducted at Del Monte Chapel
One of the loveliest weddings of the year on the Peninsula was of Miss Elaine Schaufele and Bernard Hollister Van Wie, both of Long Beach, which took place Wednesday evening at St. John’s Chapel in Del Monte. Relatives and friends crowded the church for the marriage ceremony performed by Rev. Ernest J. Bradley before an altar attractively decorated with vases of white and pink snap dragons and lighted candelabrs. Mr. Miles Bain was the soloist, singing “Oh Promise Me” and “All for You.” The bride, given in marriage by her father, Mr. Herbert J. Schaufele, wore an attractive gown of ivory satin, made in princess fashion with long fitted sleeves and a V neck. The train was formed by the skirt and the long tulle veil was draped from a cup held by two braided tulle bands and trimmed on either side with clusters of orange blossoms. Orange blossoms were worn at the nape of the neck and the bride carried an old-fashioned bouquet of white orchids, lilies of the valley and bouvardia, with a ruffle of white tulle and tied with a white crepe de chine ribbon. Mrs. Robert Rucker of San Francisco as matron of honor was gowned in a blue crape trimmed in matching tulle and carried an old-fashioned bouquet of pastel colored flowers. Mrs. Rucker served as flower girl to the bride’s mother at the time of her wedding. Miss Rosalie Kimball, cousin of the bride, was made of honor. She wore a beautiful peach-colored dress trimmed in matching tulle and carried an old-fashioned bouquet with a ruffle of peach tulle. The bridesmaids, Mises Gordon Olmstead and Marjorie Stott of Long Beach, were gowned alike in pastel shades of crepe trimmed with tulle. They carried old-fashioned bouquets with ruffles matching their dresses. Little Carmelita Burns was the dainty flower girl dressed in pale pink starched chiffon. Sidney J. Ellis Jr. of Long Beach was best man and the ushers were Mr. Sidney Pickles, Mr. Edward J. Burns Jr., cousin of the bride, and Stanton Schaufele of Long Beach. The bride’s mother, Mrs. Herbert J. Schaufele, was attired in a smart ensemble of rust colored lace with a matching jacket trimmed with velvet ribbon. The groom’s mother, Effrem H. Van Wie, wore an attractive ensamble of brown and ivory velvet trimmed in brown with brown …. To match and a corsage of gardenias and lilies-of the-valley. Following the wedding a reception was held in the Cooper Cup room of Del Monte Hotel for over 60 guests. The young couple will remain in ….. They will reside. The bride’s going away ensemble is of blue and white check novelty wool with accessories to match. Mrs. Van Wie is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Herbert J. Schaufele and the sister of Stanton Schaufele. She attended the Pacific Grove high school and later the Long Beach Junior college. Together with her mother she organized the Monterey Peninsula Order of Rainbow for Girls and was later the first worthy advisor for the assembly. Still later she held the office of grand color bearer in the state assembly. For the past year she has lived with her parents in Long Beach. Mr. Van Wie, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Hiram H. Van Wie, attended the Long Beach junior college and is an architect associated in business with his father in Long Beach.
