Auto Crash Kills Monterey Lady
A Monterey resident was killed yesterday noon when a speeding car plunged 150 feet down an embankment along Arroyo Seco road in Southern Monterey County. The victim was Annabelle Rogers Lucido of 825 Casanova Ave. Her death was the 28th traffic fatality in the county this year, compared with 33 at this time a year ago. Mrs. Lucido, 37, was a passenger in a car driven by Scott Kaye Killingswoth of 934 Angelus Way, Del Rey Oaks, according to the California Highway Patrol. Killingsworth was taken to Mee Memorial Hospital in King City with major injuries, the CHP said, as was his brother, Billy W. Killingsworth. The sheriff’s office said that Deputy James Benadom patrolling eastbound on Arroyo Seco road, was forced to pull to the shoulder of the road to avoid being hit by the oncoming Killingsworth car. Benadom, who said the other car was going at a high rate of speed, turned around to give chase. By the time he caught up with the Killingsworth vehicle, it had skidded off a curve 4 miles west of Mille’s Lodge. Mrs. Lucido was ejected from the plummeting car, according to the CHP. Rescue attempts were hampered when an ambulance summoned from Soledad broke an axle on the way to the scene. The arrival of a second ambulance was delayed as burned out wiring was repaired. Funeral services are pending at Mission Mortuary in Monterey for Mrs. Lucido. Born March 17, 1932, in St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Lucido had been a resident of Monterey for 28 years. She is survived by a daughter, Angela; a son, Erasimo, and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edgar E. Rogers of Seaside. Also surviving are two brothers, Joey Rogers of Monterey and Edward E. Rogers of Michigan; and a sister, Sandra Grace Rogers of Monterey.
