Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Jan. 26, 1942
J.E. Newsome, Pioneer of San Joaquin, Dies
Newman - J.E. “Bud” Newsome, whose life spanned three quarters of a century of California history, died last week at the family home here following a heart attack. Funeral services were held on Friday. A native of Crows Landing, Mr. Newsome was the son of California pioneers and spent most of his life ranching and farming in this area although he was for many years a peace officer and game warden as well. He had friends in all parts of California and was particularly well known on the Monterey Peninsula. His death, typically, was the indirect result of a long hike through the coastal hills on Monday. Mr. Newsome complained of weariness after returning from the walk and passed away despite medical treatment. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Fermor Newsome; four sons, Charles of Newman, Ellis of Petaluma, Lawrence of Kenenwick, Washington; and Ralph Newsome, member of the fish and game patrol of Monterey.
