Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA June 30, 1951
Peggy Keeley is Engaged to Lt. Gunther
When Mr. & Mrs. Warner Keeley entertain this evening at cocktails and a dinner party in their home on El Caminito del Norte, Monterey, their guest of honor will be attractive Margaret Humann Keeley, whose engagement to Lt. (j.g.) Ernest H. Gunther, USN, will be formally announced to the assembled group of intimate friends. The future bride, known to her many friends as “Peggy,” will wear the handsome diamond engagement ring presented to her recently by Lieutenant Gunther, who, unfortunately, was unable to come from his present station at Corpus Christi, Texas, to attend the announcement party. The couple have not made definite wedding plans, but the ceremony will probably be an event of the fall season. The daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Humann of San Marino, who are prominent in civic and business affairs in Los Angeles, Peggy is the sister of Elizabeth Humann Alford and of Henry Locan Humann of San Marino. She attened the University of California at Berkeley, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority and the Ace of Clubs. A Carmel resident, she is owner and manager of the Ed Kelley Insurance Agency in Monterey. Mrs. Ninole Locan of Carmel is Peggy’s grandmother, and she is the niece of Mrs. M.L. Hotchkiss, formerly of Berkeley and now a Carmel resident, and of Mr. John C. FOrnin of Berkeley and Carmel. With his marriage in the fall, Lieutenant Gunther will relinquish his membership in the San Francisco Bachelors. He was stationed last year at the U.S. Naval School at Del Monte and is now instructing at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi. Son of Rear Admiral and Mrs. Ernest Gunther, the future benedict has one brother, Charles Gunther. He is the grandson of the lte Mr. & Mrs. Henry St. Goar of San Francisco and of Mr. & Mrs. Marius Harrison Gunther of Memphis, Tennessee. He is a nephew of the Frederick St. Goars and Charles St. Goar of San Francisco, Mrs. John Hubert Mee of San Francisco and Palo Alto, and the George Gunthers and Mrs. James Huston of Memphis. Lieutenant Gunther prepped at the Milton Academy in Massachussetts, later attending the University of California at Berkeley where he was affiliated with Beta Theta Phi fraternity and a member of the Big C Society. He is a member of the University Club of San Francisco. Mr. & Mrs. Keeley’s guests at tonight’s announcement party will be Messrs. and Mesdames Colden O. Whitman, John C. Clancy, Fred Stanley, Robert Barbour, Louis E. Allaire, Robert McGinnis, Tom Hudson, John McClain Ashton, Orville Jones, William Monroe, Arthur Hately, Henry Newman, Ralph Buchan and Dr. and Mrs. Chester Moore of Salinas, Mr. & Mrs. John Storm of Salinas, Mrs. Blanche Keeley, Miss Ann Martin, Mr. Charles Gunther and Mr. Carmel Martin Jr.
