Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Dec. 7, 1944
Future Wedding Bells for Katherine Goodfellow
A future wedding of much interest to peninsula resident swill be that of Miss Katherine Goodfellow, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Goodfellow of Pebble Beach, to Captain Robert de Lesseps of the family of Viscount Ferdinand de Lesseps, promoter of the Suez canal. The young officer has been serving in the British army, and is now attached to a unit of American paratroopers. Miss Goodfellow, who spent most of her girlhood in Paris during her family’s residence there prior to the war, was actively engaged in Red Cross nurses’ aide work on the peninsula before going overseas to take part in the Red Cross hospital rehabilitation program. She is at present stationed on the Riviera and shares quarters with other Red Cross workers in an historic old chateau there, which, as she says, “sounds dignified- but there’s no heat!” In a recent letter to her mother, an active member of the Carmel Gray Ladies, Miss Goodfellow describes an exciting all-night motor trip which she made from southern France to Paris, then on into the “front line area” prohibited to all women not engaged in hospital work. Here she was met by her fiancé, Capt. De Lessepe, and with him shared guest honors at a dinner proffered by the officers of his unit in celebration of the engagement. Following the gala occasion, there was another all-night journey by motor back to the Riviera. In view of the fact that both Miss Goodfellow and Capt. De Lesseps are busily occupied with the winning of the wary, no immediate plans for a wedding have been made.
