Engagement of Patricia Hurlbutt and George de Lorimier Announced at Tea
To the friends who were guests at a lovely springtime tea in the Edmund C. Hurlbutt home last Saturday afternoon, formal announcement was made of the engagement of Mr. & Mrs. Hurlbutt’s only daughter, Miss Patricia, to Mr. George Stephen de Lorimier, son of Mr. & Mrs. George de Lorimier. Red parchment hearts, tied with white satin ribbon, were passed to the guests, and inside the hearts were written the names, “Patricia and George”. No wedding date has been set, but the marriage of the young couple will be an event of the summer. Miss Hurlbutt has been a teacher in the Pacific Grove grammar school for the past two years. Her fiancé is associated in business with his father in Salinas and Castroville. Mrs. de Lorimier, mother of the benedict-elect, assisted Mrs. Hurlbutt and Patricia in greeting the guests, and presiding at the tea table during the afternoon were Mrs. Hugo Futterer and Mrs. Louis Rudolph, Mrs. E. Cooke Smith and Mrs. Robert MacDonald. Sweet peas and watsonia were artistically arranged throughout the home and at the tea table. To assist at the party, Miss Elizabeth de Lorimier, a sister of George Jr., and Miss Roberta Breen came down from Dominican College; and Miss Eleanor Breen, a Dominican College friend of Miss Hurlbutt’s who made the trip to Honolulu with her last summer, was here from San Francisco. Miss Elizabeth and Miss Eleanor presented the guests with the announcement hearts, and Miss Georganne Good, a friend of both families, also assisted with the serving. Mrs. Charles French, who was a school chum of the bride-elect’s through all her grammar and high school days, invited the guests to sign Miss Hurlbutt’s “Book of Memories.” The young women were all gowned in afternoon formals of pastel shades and wore fresh flowers in their hair. Edmund Hurlbutt Jr., brother of Miss Hurlbutt, was home from Santa Clara University with a college classmate, Roger Garety of San Francisco. With the other young people, they were guests at a buffet supper and danced at Hotel Del Monte later that evening. Among the guests at the announcement tea were Mrs. Winton F. Swengel, Mrs. Fred X. Fry, Mrs. Clara J. Schuman, Mrs. George Fortier, Mrs. Noble Barter, Mrs. Fred C. Goodale, Mrs. Ralph Kent, Mrs. N.B.
