Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Feb. 4, 1942
Miss Betty Uzzell and Joseph Oenning Were Married Saturday in Reno, Nev.
Dan Cupid is pretty pleased with himself today as his latest conquest is announced. Mr. & Mrs. Elmer G. Uzzell of Pacific Grove are making the announcement, and it concerns the marriage of their daughter, Miss Elizabeth Aileen Uzzell, and Corporal Joseph H. Oenning of Fort Ord. Motoring through a blizzard to Reno, Betty and Corporal Oenning were united in marriage shortly after nine o’clock last Saturday evening. Rev. Brewster Adams officiated at the ceremony in his Reno home. The attractive bride wore a gold silk crepe dress with a brown hat, brown accessories and a moss green coat with a collar and lapels of red fox. The newlyweds returned home Sunday evening. They will become residents in Ord Village so that they may both near their work. Betty is secretary to Major Luke Kirillin in the Provost-Marshal’s office at Fort Ord, and the bridegroom, a corporal in the Military Police, works out of that same office. A graduate of the Pacific Grove High School and a member of Delta aPsi chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma, Betty is the sister of Miss Peggy Uzzell of Pacific Grove and of Corporal Jack Uzzell, who is with the United States Army Air Corps “somewhere in the Pacific.” The popular bride was recently made an honorary corporal of the MP’s at Fort Ord. The son of Mr. & Mrs. Jack Oenning of Houston, Texas, the bridegroom has a brother at Camp Roberts and a sister, Miss Ruth Ann Oenning of Houston. His parents and his sister are en route here from Texas. They had hoped to arrive on the Peninsula in time for their son’s wedding, but they were caught in a snow storm in Colorado and will continue their trip to California when the highways are less dangerous. Corporal Oenning attended Northwestern University before entering Uncle Sam’s army.
