Hannah M. Craig and Rolland Nelson Wed at Evening Ceremony
At six o’clock Saturday evening attractive Hannah M. Craig and Sergeant Rolland Nelson exchanged their marriage vows at a lovely candlelight ceremony which was performed by Chaplain C.C. Merrill in the Presidio home of the bride’s brother-in-law and sister, Sergeant and Mrs. Charles Rubin. Mr. & Mrs. Rubin stood with the bride and bridegroom beneath an arch of calla lilies and smilax, from which a gold and white wedding bell was suspended. Two trellises covered with the white callas and green smilax completed the effect of a garden arbor, and in the background a large American flag was hung. Candelabra holding white tapers and two urns filled with callas flanked the trellises, and white plum blossoms were arranged in the living and dining rooms. The bride’s wedding gown was of fuchsia lace over pink taffeta and at her throat she wore a pale pink camellia, matching the flower in her hair. Mrs. Rubin was gowned in royal blue georgette, with which she wore pink sweet peas, and the dress unifroms worn by the chaplain, the bridegroom and his best man, added to the color of the scene. Immediately after the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served for members of the two families. Present at the family party were Mr. & Mrs. Sherman S. Nelson of Salem, Oregon, parents of the bridegroom; Mr. & Mrs. James G. Derrick of Seaside, Oregon, his brother-in-law and sister; Mrs. Margaret Harris of San Francisco, the bride’s aunt; David Louis Craig, the young son of the bride; her sisters, Mrs. James Moore and Mrs. Charles Rubin, and Mr. Moore and Mr. Rubin; Mr. & Mrs. C.N. Wunterlick of Monterey, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, and her brother, William Wunterlick of Monterey; Chaplain and Mrs. C.C. Merrill, Captain and Mrs. Alexander George, Sergeant and Mrs. Thomas P. Farrell, Miss Mildred Birks and Mrs. Marie Odum. After dinner, a number of the couple’s friends from the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas came to extend their good wishes. The bride cut her wedding cake, which occupied the center of a table covered with an oyster-white lace cloth and lighted by white candles. Sergeant Nelson and his bride are away for a few days in northern California and they will return to reside at 1028 Harriet street, in Monterey. The bride, member of an old-time Monterey family, has a position with the Monterey County clerk’s office in Salinas, and during the weeks before her marriage she was the honored guest at a number of parties given by her friends of Salinas and the Monterey Peninsula. Her husband, who is active in all athletic events at the Presidio of Monterey, is with Troop F of the Eleventh Cavalry.
