David Barrows Claims Bride in Salem
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, Oregon, was the setting Friday evening for the marriage of Patricia Louise Gilmore of Salem, and David Stow Barrows, son of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas N. Barrows of Carmel. White chrysanthemums and pampas grass plumes were arranged with huckleberry greens to decorate the church. The pews were marked with white bows. The bride, daughter of Mrs. William Vernon Gilmore of Salem and the late Mr. Gilmore, was given in marriage by her brother, Vernon G. Gilmore. She wore a princess style gown of white peau de soie with an empire bodice and a full skirt extending into a chapel train. The bodice was of reembroidered Alencon lace styled a scoop neckline and long sleeves. Her fingertip illusion veil was held by a scalloped crystal and pearl crown, and she carried an orchid on a white prayerbook. Mrs. Michael Glenn was matron of honor, and the bridesmaids were Miss Nancy Barrows, (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Carol Bushman, and Miss Roberta Ellington. All wore frocks of iridescent emerald green tissue taffeta with butterfly bows at the back waistline, above the fully-gathered skirts. Another butterfly bow was on each attendant’s head, and the bouquets were of white chrysanthemums and iridescent fern. Robert E. Joseph Jr. stood with the bridegroom as best man. Ushers were Lawrence Rew, Harl Haas, and Wesley McMullen. Mrs. Gilmore attended her daughter’s wedding in a costume suit of silk and wool in rose beige with open roses in an all-over design. Her accessories were beige and she pinned on orchids. Mrs. Barrows chose a green and violet brocade suit with green accessories, and her corsage was also of orchids. After a reception in the church’s parish hall, the newlyweds left to honeymoon on the Oregon coast. They will make their home at 275 Superior St., Salem, Oregon. The bride attended the University of Oregon and Northwestern University Medical School. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega at Oregon, and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. The bridegroom was graduated from Willamette University and is now a student at the Willamette College of Law. He is a member of Beta Theta Phi social fraternity and of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. David is the grandson of the late Mr. & Mrs. Frank H. Snow of Carmel and Berkeley and of the late Gen. David T. Barrows, former president of the University of California at Berkeley, and Mrs. Barrows. His aunts and uncles, all well known on the Peninsula, are Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Hagar of Berkeley, Mrs. Nan Stewart of Lafayette, Mr. & Mrs. Tom D. Stow of Berkeley, Mr. & Mrs. Frank G. Adams of Carmel, and former Carmel resident Mrs. Rollin Ford Allyne of Chicago.
