San Carlos Church Rites Unite Frances Archdeacon and Salvador B. Solis
The historic old San Carlos Royal Presidio Chapel was the setting last Saturday afternoon for the nuptial rites of Miss Frances Archdeacon and Salvador B. Solis. The Reverend Thomas McGovern performed the lovely double-ring ceremony. Given in marriage by her brother, Salvatore Archdeacon, the bride wore a bouffant gown of white mousseline de soie with inserts of rose point lace and long sleeves that ended in points at the wrists. Her long, filmy French veil fell from a coronet of orange blossoms. The bridal bouquet was in the form of a large heart edged with maline ruching and was made of white and purple orchids and gardenias, from which fell white satin streamers tied with tiny bunches of orange blossoms. Around her neck, she wore a double strand necklace of pearls. The bride’s three attendants were dressed in identical frocks in pastel shades of picturesque brocade with full, hooped skirts, leg o’ mutton sleeves, and sweetheart necks, the matron of honor, Miss Mary DiMaggio, niece of the bride, in apricot; the bridesmaids, Miss Jerry Baroni, in aqua, and Miss Mary Ruiz, niece of the groom, in pale yellow. Their flowers were white carnations and orchids, and they wore coronets of gardenias in place of hats. The bride’s mother, Mrs. Ida Archdeacon, was gowned in black crepe with a black hat with a fuchsia plume and black veiling. Her corsage was of orchids. Mrs. Manuel Solis, mother of the groom, wore a navy blue frock with navy accessories and an orchid corsage. Frank Archdeacon, brother of the bride, served as best man, and the usher was Peter Baroni. There was a reception after the ceremony at the Knights of Pythias Hall for several hundred guests. On the bride’s table was a huge, five-tiered wedding cake, surrounded with gardenias and pink bouvardia. The music was furnished by a seven piece orchestra. When the newlyweds left for their honeymoon, the bride wore a traveling suit and three-quarter length coat trimmed with a band of muskrat, and a lovely hat of blue feathers with blue veiling. Her corsage was of orchids. The new Mrs. Solis is a member of a well-known Monterey family. For several years she was a member of the business office staff of The Herald. She has five sisters residing in Monterey, Mrs. DiMaggio, Mrs. John Giamona, Mrs. Hall Travis, Mrs. J. Flores of San Francisco, and Mrs. Horace Davi of Pittsburgh. Her brothers are Frank and Sal Archdeacon. The benedict, also a member of a prominent Monterey family, is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Manuel Solis. He has five sisters too, Mrs. Horace Lucido, Mrs. Pete Kucher, Mrs. Joseph Lucido, Mrs. Vincent Ruiz, all of Monterey, and Mrs. John Acevedo of Santa Clara. His brothers are Manuel and Joseph Solis. The groom has recently received his discharge from the Army after serving with great distinction with the Ninth Army in France and Germany. The young couple plan to make their home in New Monterey.
