Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Nov. 1, 1960
Wed in Presidio Chapel
The Post Chapel at the Presidio of Monterey was the setting on Oct. 22 for the wedding of Miss Frances Noreen Meginness of Monterey and A/2c Richard Fred Patterson of South San Francisco. Chaplain Lt. Col. Albert W. Nickel officiated at the rites. The bride was escorted to the altar by her guardian, Herbert J. Dershem. She wore a white street length brocade dress designed with bell-shaped skirt and close fitting bodice. A bandeau of orange blossoms held her short veil in place, and she carried a white prayer book topped with a bouquet of white orchids and roses. Miss Rebecca Hancock, in green brocade, was her maid of honor. She carried pink roses and wore a headpiece of green net and flowers. Best man was Sylvester A. DeMure. Nancy Meginness, the bride’s sister was in charge of the guest book. She wore a street length dress of yellow brocade, with a bandeau of yellow flowers and veiling. Noreen is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Blythe Meginness of Los Angeles. For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. Meginness wore a costume of medium green with white accessories. With her was Noreen’s youngest sister, Nadine. The bride’s only brother, Robert Meginness is now in the service and is stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala. The groom’s parents are Mr. & Mrs. George R. Patterson of South San Francisco. Mrs. Paterson attended her son’s wedding in an ensemble of medium blue with white accessories. Both mothers pinned on corsages of pink camellias. Following the ceremony as the bridal couple was descending the Chapel steps, Noreen tossed her bouquet, which was caught by Miss Hancock. About 50 relative sand friends toasted the couple at a reception in the Surf Room of the NCO Club at the Army Language School immediately following the ceremony. There they cut the three-tiered wedding cake before leaving for an undisclosed honeymoon destination. The groom, who is in the U.S. Air Force, has just returned from a tour of duty in Pakistan, and at the expiration of his 30-day furlough he and his bride will be at Air Force Base in Texas. The bride has lived on the Peninsula since childhood and in 1958 was graduated from Monterey Union High School. She has since been working for the Pacific Telephone Company. The groom received his education in San Francisco schools. He was a graduate from the Army Language School before his assignment to Pakistan.
