People We Like
When the sun shines, he is one of the most popular men in town. When the fog rolls in, it’s a different story. For Chris Christensen is the big milk shake and sundae man at the Grove Creamery, the fellow who spends all his spare time thinking up new flavors and textures for ice cream and new ways to sell more of it. His business is a far cry from the old vanilla strawberry and chocolate days. Chris is another example of that rare commodity in Pacific Grove, a prominent local business man who is also a native son. His birthplace was Ferndale, Humboldt county, Judging from his complexion and the “sen” on the end of his name, his ancestry is Danish, but we forgot to check on that particular item. After his schooling in Ferndale, Chris started to learn the milk business from a to z but had to take time enough off to help settle a score with Kaiser Wilhelm, the last time Germany was on a rampage. He served overseas as Corporal Chris Christensen, which made him the original CCC boy didn’t it? He was in France when the armistice was signed in the same railway car the Adolf Hitler used for similar purposes more recently. After his return, it was not long until Chris was in the business of erecting and installing plants for the manufacture of powdered milk and similar products. It was 12 years ago when he was engaged in such activities in Newman, a town in the San Joaquin valley, that he met, courted and married Mrs. Christensen. They have three children who give promise of setting some sort of record as a high scholarship family in that local school. Chris is a member of the Masonic lodge and of the Lions club, chamber of commerce and other local organizations. The Christensens have lived in Pacific Grove for seven years. During that time they have worked hard, built up a good business, taken an active part in local affairs, built a new home and otherwise, outshined themselves, as good progressive citizens. That is why we welcome Chris among the “people we like.”
