Miss Florence West Marries Joseph Pettit
At a candlelight service in the front room of the A.B. Ingham home Saturday evening, Joseph Maye Pettit claimed Miss Florence Rowell West as his bride in the presence of 25 members of their families. The Rev. Fred Morrow of Saratoga officiated. The service was read as the couple stood before an improvised altar covered with antique eyelet embroidered linen on which were burning white tapers in a brass candleabra. Large sprays of gladioli, candytuft and fern flanked the altar. The wedding music was played by Miss Elizabeth Ingham as a violin solo accompanied to her aunt, Mrs. Wilfred Rowell of Hinedale, Ill. The bride’s wedding dress was brocaded Chinese silk and over it she wore a short sleeved jacket of handmade Irish crochet. Her veil was fingertip length. She carried white rosebuds backed by white satin ribbon and sprays of lilies of the valley. After the service the guests gathered in the dining room which was decorated in yellow gladioli and marguerites, Mrs. Ingham was assisted by her daughters. Barbara, Louise and Elizabeth in receiving the guests. When Mr. & Mrs. Pettit left the Ingham home the bride wore a beige ensemble with a dusky rose blouse and dark brown accessories. Her corsage was of lilies of the valley. They plan to honeymoon at Clear Lake and will be in Palo Alto during the summer session of Stanford University where Mr. Pettit is working for his Ph.D. They will make their home in Berkeley in the fall as the bridegroom is a member of the University of California faculty.
