Frederick J. Thornes Honeymoon at Catalina
Now on their honeymoon at Catalina Island are Mr. & Mrs. Frederick J. Thorne who were married Sunday afternoon in the Mayflower Congregational church. The bride is the former Miss Vadis McGill. The service was read by the Rev. E.M. Jelters as the young couple stood before their friends in the flower decorated church. The bride’s wedding dress of brocaded marguisette was made with a full skirt and long train and her net veil was shoulder length. She carried a bouquet of gardenias and bouvardia. The bride’s uncle, Aiden McGill, gave her in marriage. Mrs. Wilbur Brown of San Francisco, the matron of honor, wore a powder blue, softly draped gown and the bride’s sister, Miss Gladys McGill, the bridesmaid, wore a similarly fashioned gown of soft pink. Both wore sweet peas and delphinium in their hair and carried French bouquets of roses, sweet peas and delphinium. Small Richard Payton was the ring bearer. Lieutenant Sammy Benedict was Mr. Thorne’s best man and the ushers were Bill Baldwin, George Hansen, Kenneth McGill and Jake Witmer. Mrs. Russell Giles played the wedding music, and Gordon Knoles sand “I Love You Truly.” Following the service a reception was held at the McGill home on Lobos avenue where the young couple’s mothers assisted in receiving the guests. The bride’s cake was on the dining room table which was covered with a white lace cloth and the white centerpiece was of double stock flanked by tapers. Later in the afternoon Mr. & Mrs. Thorne left for a two weeks honeymoon, the first week to be spent at Catalina and the second in the Valley. For her going away outfit the bride wore a blue and white silk print dress, blue coat and blue and white hat. Following their trip Mr. & Mrs. Thorne will return to the Peninsula to make their home in Monterey.
