Reu Mahire Claims Ruth Golridge as Bride
In the presence of their many friends and relatives gathered in the candle lit Mayflower Congregational church Saturday evening. Miss Ruth Elizabeth Colridge became the bride of Reu Elwood Manhire. The Rev. George E. Atkinson officiated at the service. For her wedding the bride wore a beautifully fashioned net covered gown of white satin. Her veil, which was the wedding veil of her sister-in-law, Mrs. John Yolland, fell from a tiny satin cap and was held to her head by a cluster of lilies of the valley. She carried a Rainbow Girls Bible from which fell a spray of bouvardia centered by an orchid. Mrs. Bell Baldwin, the former Miss Bernice McGill, was matron of honor. She wore a dainty gown of peach silk made with puffed sleeves, square neckline and full skirt, on which were fastened tiny ribbon bows. The bridesmaid, Miss Mildred Sindel, wore a similarly fashioned dress of powdered blue. Both wore clusters of flowers in their hair and carried bouquets of peach colored gladioli and blue delphinium. The brides’ niece, little Kay Yolland, was flower girl and wore a long, full skirted dress of blue net and carried a French bouquet. Mr. Manhire had as best man his cousin, Loren Johnson of San Jose. Ushers were Robert Hinze, Charles Colridge, the bride’s brother, David Smith and David Rogers. Before the bridal party entered the church Mr. Manhire sang “Until,” “When I Have Sung My Songs,” and “Because.” Miss Alice Keith was at the organ. After the service Mr. & Mrs. Manhire received their friends in the lounge of the Forest Hill Hotel. The bride’s table there was centered by a large white cake and decorated with two large sprays of peach and cream colored gladioli. Daintly wrapped pieces of wedding cake were placed on silver trays. Mrs. Yolland, Mrs. George Schuyler, Mrs. H.S. Hinze and Miss Gertrude Ernst were hostesses at the reception. When Mr. & Mrs. Manhire left the hotel the bride wore a navy blue dress of crepe romaine with white lace collar and cuffs, a fitted coat of navy blue twill, a white straw hat with navy ribbons, and white accessories. On her coat was fastened the orchid from her bridal bouquet. They drove to Big Sur that evening returning to Pacific Grove Sunday for the weddings of Miss Hazel Jones and William E. Shepard and Miss Vadis McGill and Frederick J. Thorne. They then left for Lake Tahoe where they planned t spend several days before going on to Moscow, Idaho, where Mrs. Mahire will enroll at the University of Idaho for the summer season. Miss Avis MacKarcher decorated the church for the wedding and Miss Hilda Van Sickles the table for the reception.
