Popular Grove Pair Celebrate Golden Wedding
Mr. & Mrs. Harry C. Steinmetz, who met 50 years ago when Mr. Steinmetz, then a young blacksmith in Warm Springs, California, shoed a shores for orchardist, H.R. Shaw and met his pretty daughter, Ada, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary very quietly Tuesday. Because of an accident July 3, when she suffered a broken leg at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Holman of Carmel Valley, the celebration had to be in the Peninsula Community Hospital. That, however, didn’t prevent the many friends and clubs to which the Steinmetz belong from sending presents and flowers to commemorate the occasion. A cake for this couple who have made their home in Pacific Grove for the last 48 years, was baked by the hospital staff. The celebration which occurred perforce during the hospital’s visiting hours, found Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Steinmetz and their daughter Bernice and Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Steinmetz, all of Pacific Grove, and Mr. & Mrs. Howard Steinmetz of Reno attending. Mr. Harry Steinmetz, who recently suffered a stroke of facial paralysis, is still actively operating a blacksmith shop in Pacific Grove. Since the motor car removed his main source of trade, Mr. Steinmetz has turned more and more to ornamental iron work, and excellent examples of his craftsmanship can be found at the Country club and the Pacific Grove high school. His sons Clarence and Leonard operative a local welding shop.
