Word was received by Tide just before going to press, that L.D. Perkins passed away in a Carmel hospital last night. L.D. Community Honors Late L.D. Perkins
Pacific Grove people gathered together on Saturday to give expression to the esteem in which they held the late L.D. Perkins and to mourn his passing, which occurred quite unexpectedly last week. Funeral services were held in the Mayflower Congregational church. Rev. John H. Hunter, pastor of the local church, and Rev. Vincent Jones, former pastor of the church in Paso Robles of which Perkins was a member before he came to Pacific Grove, jointly conducted the rites. Rev. Mr. Hunter offered the prayers and read familiar scriptural passages. Rev. Mr. Jones gave a personal tribute to the splendid life lived by Mr. Perkins. “His was a life of fine margin,” Rev. Mr. Jones affirmed. He told of the splendid family background from which Perkins came and eulogized his home and his life of Christian, neighborly, friendly service. Miss Peggy Hunter, soprano sang “Abide With Me” and “The End of the Road” accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Carol Moore Turner. Pall bearers were W.T. Moore, Harold Davis, Floyd Landis, Loren Smith, Wesley Chase and Dr. E.R. McQuilkin, all members of the staff of the Bank of America, of which he was an active member. Rev. Mr. Hunter told of the fine service given by Perkins as choir director of the church and other phases of church service. He pointed out the personal sacrifices that this service required. There was a great profusion of beautiful floral pieces, expressing the esteem in which Perkins was held by the community. People in attendance at the services came from all walks of life, exemplary of the host of friends he had made. Lester Davis Perkins was a native of Sterling, Colorado, 48 years of age at the time of his death. He came to California many years ago, coming to Pacific Grove from Paso Robles, where he had been manager of the Bank of American branch in that city. He had resided here for the past five years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the local Exchange club, having been elected vice-president of that organization a week before his death. He was a director of the Pacific Grove chamber of commerce and active in local church, fraternal and civic circles. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mabel E. Perkins of this city, and (incomplete)

Perkins, Lester D., married M.E., age 48, died in Monterey County on June 18, 1936
