Monterey County Herald, CA April 3, 2000
Marina - R. Peter Puck Jr., a resident of Salinas and Marina for the past 45 years, died Friday in Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. He was 50. He was born in San Jose on Dec. 15, 1949. Mr. Puck was an agricultural consultant who specialized in pest research and field development. He developed chemical baits, using pheromones, to combat the voles and plume moths that devastate artichoke fields. Mr. Puck’s work also included drip irrigation, seed propagation and sustainable agriculture. He was formerly a National Park Service ranger stationed at Yellowstone National park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Mr. Puck graduated from Salinas High School with the class of 1968, earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University at Sacramento and a master’s from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. He is survived by his parents, Raymond and Graciela Puck of Salinas; a brother, Douglas Puck of Salinas; three sisters, Temby Wishmak of Salinas, Maria Snodgrass of Loomis and Julia Williams of San Ramon; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Ruth Perkins of Arroyo Seco. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 am. To 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel in Salinas. Vigil services will be held in the chapel at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Lassen Loomis Museum Association, Mineral, CA, or to the Big Sur Land Trust, Carmel.
