A frequent visitor to Carmel since 1922, he and Mrs. Brewster built their home at San Carlos and First streets in 1927, coming here to reside permanently following his retirement from the rectorship of St. James Church San Francisco, n September 15, 1947. He was a graduate of Amhurst College and the Cambridge Theological Seminary and served as rector of churches in Fitchburg, Mass., Mt. Following rectorships at Bisbee and Winslow in Arizona, and at St. Paul’s Church, Modesto, Mr. Brewster was called to serve as dean of the cathedral in Fargo, North Dakota, where he remained for eight years, then accepting the rectorship of St. James Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Considered an outstanding scholar of the California Diocese, Mr. Brewster was author of two books, “The Madness of War,” published after World War I by the MacMillan Company, and “The Simple Gospel,” published by Harper Brothers, as well as numerous magazine articles. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Marie Brewster of Carmel; a son, George C. Brewster of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, Miss Gertrude Brewster of Carmel, and Mrs. A.C.
