H. Steinhagen Fatally Stricken
Herman Steinhagen, widely known resident of the peninsula since 1903, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his home, 212 Belden street, New Monterey, victim of a heart attack. Steinhagen was a popular member of several veterans organization, having served in the Philippines as a member of Company E, 14th U.S. Infantry, in which he enlisted in 1898. Wounded in the Philippines, he was honorably discharged for disability in 1899. He was a member of Robert P. Wainwright camp, United Spanish War Veterans; Capt., Henry H. Chapman post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Neighbors of Woodcraft and Woodmen of the World. He was post tailor at the Presidio of Monterey from 1903 until his retirement in 1919. Major E.E. Swanson, chaplain of the presidio, will conduct funeral services at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Freeman mortuary chapel. Interment, with military honors, will follow in El Carmelo Cemetery.

V.F.W. Service for Herman Steinhagen
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post and auxillary will conduct ritualistic services at 7:30 tonight in the Freeman mortuary chapel for Herman Steinhagen, prominent local veteran who died Sunday. All V.F.W. post and auxillary members are urged to be present.
