Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Aug 28, 1931
T. Aubrey Pryor is Laid to Rest
Solemnly impressive rites were conducted yesterday for Thomas Aubrey Pryor of Pacific Grove, who passed away Wednesday morning after several years’ illness. Members of Monterey Peninsula post of the American Legion, of which Pryor was a popular member attended the services in a body, with the post colors draped in mourning, and six of his former buddies bore him to his last resting place. Rev. Albert E. Clay read the Episcopal funeral service at St. Mary’s by-the-Sea, assisted by the bested choir and organist. The church was well filled with the friends and relatives of the deceased. At the conclusion of the church service the Legionnaires passed about the flag-covered coffin, each giving a silent salute to his dead comrade. Led by the military band and a squad of riflemen from the Presidio of Monterey, the cortege proceeded to El Carmelo Cemetery, where Commander H.G. Maves of the Legion post added a brief but eloquent eulogy to the burial service conducted by Dr. Clay, after which the band played two selections, taps was sounded by a bugler, three volleys by the firing squad completing the ceremony. Julian, Gabriel and Owen Burnett, William Pottharst, Harold Steinmetz and Reinhold Plapp acted as pallbearers. Paul’s mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
