Peninsula Daily Herald, CA Jan 7, 1929
Illness Fatal to Miss Lloyd, Leader in P.G.
Pacific Grove lost one of her leading citizens when Miss Etta Belle Lloyd died at her home yesterday morning as the result of illness at the age of 80 years. Services were held this morning at 1);30 at the Paul Mortuary, with Reverend Robert McArthur of the Grove Methodist church, of which Mrs. Lloyd was a member, officiating. At the grave at El Carmelo Cemetery members of the Rebecca ldoge conducted additional services. During the 48 years of her residence in the Grove Miss Lloyd at all times played an integral part in the life of the community. An active member of the Women’s Civic club since the date of its founding, she also served as secretary and director of the city museum. Since 1891 she was a member of the lodge of Rebekahs. But Miss Lloyd’s activities extended beyond the lmits of the peninsula. For three years she served at state president of the Chautaqua alumni. In other fields she was active as a school teacher and at one time numbered among her pupils the late Judge Fred A. Treat. Miss Lloyd was born in Utica, New York, and was brought to California at the age of six months. Among her survivors are Mrs. Mabel E. Dinkelspiel of Pacific Grove, a sister: The Misses Mabel Johnson of Oakland and eJtte Johnson of Mayfield and Mrs. Clyde Zumwalt, now living in the Grove, and all of whom are nieces, and Lloyd Weer of San Francisco, a nephew.
