Monterey County Herald, CA April 15, 2000
Pebble Beach - Charles B. Briggs Jr., a mechanical engineer, died Thursday at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. He was 85. Born Sept. 16, 1914, in Kansas City, Mo., he moved to Pebble Beach from Atherton 19 years ago. Mr. Briggs earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Missouri and a master’s of business administration from the University of Kansas. During World War II, he helped to develop the jet engine for Pratt and Whitney. For 20 years, he worked as a mechanical engineer for the Marley Co., designing cooling towers. He was president of Getz Brothers of San Francisco, an import and export company, and was vice president of Scale Models Unlimited of Menlo Park, a maker of architectural and photographic scale models. He was a member of Monterey Peninsula College. Mr. Briggs is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pamela; a son, Bruce Briggs of Santa Rosa; and five grandchildren. At his request, no services will be held. His ashes were scattered at sea. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Hospice Foundation.
