Marina - Frank Braddock Mitchell Jr., a security guard at the Castroville Community Bank with Paige’s Security, died Sunday at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 76. Born April 21, 1923, in Somersville, Mass., he lived in Monterey County for more than 30 years. Mr. Mitchell served three years in the Navy, seeing action in the Pacific Theater during World War II and earning the Purple Heart. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 12 years, completing two years of leadership and management training. He spent several years at Fort Ord as Department of the Army Civilian in the Directorate of Logistics in administration. Mr. Mitchell left Fort Ord in 1963 to work in administration at Veteran’s Hospital in San Francisco, returned to the Peninsula in 1997. He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge No. 46 in Seaside, past Supreme Worshipful Master in Scottish Rites of Masonry in San Francisco, where he held the 33rd degree in Masonry. Mr. Mitchell belonged to Hays Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and was active in Sunday School, mid-week Bible Study and prayer meetings. He is survived by his two daughters, Mayumi Mitchell and Hiromi Mitchell, both of San Diego; two brothers, Joseph Mitchell of Seaside and Kenneth Mitchell of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Dana Brooks of Riverside; his fiancé, Verna Woolfolk-Sloan of Marina; two aunts and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside. Mission Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
