Marina - Arsenieu “Serie” P. Bagtas, a retired Army sergeant, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco. He was 83. Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Orion, Bataan, the Philippines, he moved to Seaside 42 years ago and had lived in Marina since 1966. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March during World War II, and also served in the Korean War and in Vietnam. He retired in 1964 with the rank of sergeant first class. Mr. Bagtas was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Philippine Scouts, American Legion Marina post and the Fil-Am club. He won numerous awards in ballroom dancing competitions and was an Arthur Murray Dance Studio instructor. Mr. Bagtas is survived by two daughters, Lilian Wagner of San Francisco, and Lenore Humphreys of Reston, Ca.; three grandchildren, and a nephew. His wife, Gloria Ro Bagtas, died in 1997. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marina.
