Carmel - William Franklin Whitaker II, a former resident of Carmel, died in Midland, Texas, on Thursday. He was 83. Born in Bakersfield on July 6, 1916, he lived in Carmel between 1960 and 1999. Mr. Whitaker was vice president for Rain-for-Rent in Bakersfield and Riverside. The firm also has a branch in Salinas. He was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. Mr. Whitaker was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Riverside and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by a son, William Whitaker III of Gilbert, Ariz.; a daughter, Katy Whitaker Reddell of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Anne Whitaker Smith of Escondido and Ruth Whitaker Bryan of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren. His wife, Veda, died last April. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Midland. Ellis Funeral Home in Midland is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to Home Hospice, Midland, Texas.
