|JOSEPH GOMEZ is well known in and about Castroville as an upright, thrifty and prosperous farmer. He is a native of Flores Isle, one of the Azores, lying off the coast of Portugal. He was there born, March 17, 1850. In 1869 he came to California and settled in the Salinas valley, where he has since remained. For years, Mr. Gomez has been the trusted employee of the P. C. S. S. C, as foreman of their extensive warehouses and wharf, at Moss landing. In addition to his duties in this connection, our subject is the owner of a fine ranch of 124 acres, near Moss landing.
Mr. Gomez was married, April 25, 1881, to Miss Mary Hayes, a native of Castroville, born January 1, 1865. Mr. and Mrs. Gomez have one daughter, Annie, born December 10, 1882. Both our subject and his estimable wife are highly respected citizens of Castroville.
