Edmund A. Stark, 87, a resident of Monterey for more than 50 years, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007. He was born Nov. 20, 1919, at his family's farm in Lewiston, Minn. He moved to Burbank in 1941 to work for Lockheed Aircraft. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S Army and was stationed at Fort Ord in charge of the motor pool. He worked at United Sweets Auto Service for more than 20 years, then Granite Construction for more than 14 years. Ed attended college at night to earn his associate's degree in electronics, acquired his pilot's license in the 1940s, pitted for various race teams, acquired his ham radio license, was a scoutmaster for Troop 128, an elder for Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was very involved in the Lutheran Brail Workers, where he traveled the country for more than 10 years updating brail machines for the church. All who knew Ed felt privileged to know a selfless spirit that was filled with God's love and willing to stand up for what is right. He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman; first wife, Barbara; and second wife, Elaine. Military service: He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors: Sons, Edward Keith Stark of Monterey and Michael Shane (Virginia) Stark of Livermore; daughter, Sandra Lynn Godes of San Diego; stepchildren, Ben and Julie Berger and Nancy Lynn and Bill Kelly; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at The Paul Mortuary Chapel, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at The Paul Mortuary Chapel, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove. Interment with military honors: Will follow the services at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. Memorials: In memory of Ed, may be made to Lutheran Brail Workers, P.O. Box 5000, Yucaipa, CA. 92399. Arrangements: The Paul Mortuary Information: (831) 375-4191. Friends are invited to sign the guest book for Ed and leave condolences for the family at www.thepaul mortuary.com.
