Pedro E. Zabala, Noted Attorney Of County, Dies
Salinas, Dec. 31 (AP) – Pedro Eduardo Zabala, one of Monterey county’s best known lawyers and a member of one of its oldest families, died here today after a long illness. He was 61 years old and had practiced law here for 38 years. Zabala, born in Monterey, was one of the 15 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Zabala, and a grandson of W.E.P. Hartnell, who founded the first college of California in the Alisal, near Salinas, in 1833. He was a graduate of Santa Clara college and was appointed a deputy district attorney shortly afterward. In 1894 he was elected district attorney and held the office two terms. He left the widow, Mrs. Lelia Zabala; three children by a previous marriage, Mrs. Lindsay Howard of San Mateo, Miss Marcella Zabala of Los Angeles and Pedro Zabala of San Francisco. He also left the following brothers and sisters: William and Albert Zabala of Salinas, Miss Ana Zabala of San Francisco and Miss Theresa Zabala of San Francisco.
