Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA, June 14, 1933, p5
Popular Carmel Resident Passes
The peninsula community was saddened today by the death of Miss Kissam Johnson, one of Carmelís best known younger residents, who succumbed this morning at a local hospital after two weeks illness. Three operations were performed in the hope of saving Miss Johnsonís life, but to no avail. Death was the result of an intestinal obstruction. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., Miss Johnson was a member of a distinguished eastern family. With her mother, Mrs. Delia Kissam Johnson, she had made her home in Carmel for the last ten years, taking an active part in dramatic, literary and social activities of the community. For a time she was a member of the Herald news staff, covering Carmel affairs for this paper. Beside her mother, Miss Johnson is survived by a brother, Philip K. Johnson of Toronto, Ohio, who was called here when it became apparent that medical science could not save his sisterís life. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 oíclock at All Saints Church, Carmel, with Rev. Austin Chinn officiating. Cremation at Santa Cruz will follow. Freemanís mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
