Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Aug. 20, 1935 p2
Last Rites Held for Mrs. Rinehart in San Francisco
Mourned by scores of old friends here and in other parts of the state, Mrs. Alice Rinehart was committed to her resting place yesterday following funeral services in San Francisco. Her death occurred Saturday afternoon at the San Francisco hotel where she had been residing since last October. Widow of the late Charles Rinehart, who died in 1929, she was the sister of Councilman George E. MacDonald and, with her husband, had lived here for more than 30 years, the family home being in New Monterey. Until his retirement in 1924, Mr. Rinehart was associated in the Union Supply company. Mr. and Mrs. Rinehart continued to live here until 1927, after which they spent much time traveling and in San Francisco. They came here in 1904, after having lived in Stockton where Mr. Rinehart was engaged in ranching for about 14 years. Mrs. Rinehart, who was born 67 years ago at half Moon Bay, then known as Spanish Town, was active in club and social affairs of the peninsula during her long residence, and was loved by young and old alike for her sunny personality. She was always happiest when quietly lending assistance to those less fortunate. Her chief interests, outside of her home, were the Improvement club and the Alpha club, a social organization. Among the many who attended the funeral yesterday were her brother, George McDonald, Mrs. MacDonald and their son, Elford, now of Vallejo; Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Colburn, the former being a lifelong friend, as well as business associate; Mrs. H.A. Hansen and Herbert Bispo, all of Monterey.
