Last Rites for Old Time Carmel Resident
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday in the T.A. Dorney Chapel for Miss Emma I. Williams, long-time resident of Carmel, who passed away suddenly at the home of her friend, Mrs. Elizabeth McClung White, with whom she was visiting during the holiday of her companion, Mrs. Vivia May. The Rev. Theodore Bell will officiate at the rites. Miss Williams was born in 1858 in Hartford, Connecticut, and came over a quarter of a century ago to make her permanent home in Carmel, where she maintained an exceptionally fine private school over a number of years. Among her pupils were the daughters of the late Grace MacGowan Cooke, Bonnie Hale, and “Bobsy” Pinkerton. In addition to her teaching, she took an active part in the community life of early Carmel. While Miss Williams had been in frail health for some time, the end came unexpectedly, as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage.
